My good riding buddy Grebmrof and I will be loading the Bonnies with tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses, and other assorted stuff, (can't forget clothes) for an extended ride. We'll be leaving the middle of next week from Cleveland, Ohio for points southwest by way of KY and TN, then swinging right (west) thru Missouri and Texas, and on to N Mexico. Then the fun begins. We plan to head north thru AZ, UT, Idaho, Wyoming, possibly Montana.
Ultimately, another right turn will have us headed back East, through South Dakota, etc, etc., until we eventually make it back to Sweet Home Ohio.
We plan to be on the road for approx 3 weeks. Best guess at this time is that we'll ride 4500+ miles.
I'm leaving a perfectly good, time-proven R100GS in the garage in favor of my 2003 T100. My buddy is leaving his Suz VStrom 650 and riding his 2001 Bonnie. We're not planning on doing the typical BMW banzai trip of 600-800 mile days, but have decided to limit daily travel to around 300-350 miles, which should be perfect for our Bonnevilles.
All our bikes have to do is keep firing plugs, mixing gasoline, and keep the wheels turning and we'll be a couple of happy guys.
Hey, if I made it from Charleston WV to Brownsville TX in 1966 on a BSA Spitfire Scrambler (yes, Scrambler) it should be a piece of cake on the new Bonneville. Forget the fact that was forty years ago, back when I didn't know any better! Greb's no sloch either .... he's taken off on road trips in a Guzzi sidehack outfit that only a glutton for punishment would attempt. Came to his senses after a couple of years and got back on two wheels!
Can't wait to get started!
Bob
