It isn't located on the sticker by the T-Tree. Just checked my 06. I bought it in CA and had it registered by the dealer. It isn't anywhere where it is easily noticed and I will not have to get it smog inspected (like I do with my four other vehicles!) so it shouldn't matter that much. I do not know about the regs for used bikes.
check the CA DMV site for details - it is pretty easy to navigate or you might want to check with one of the dealers in SoCal.
