I used a long threaded 3/8 rod with two jam nuts on both ends. If required grind nuts or wrap tape around them so that they are a tight fit in the damper rod. I like the idea of using the spring load to hold the rod if you can get enough pressure. I did not try that. Check t ups and my albums for some good detail on this installation. It is very worthwhile. Use 5-7 wt oil when you rebuild.-good luck- thruxtonone
