The "dags" are the extra bits of plastic hanging out from joins, corners, etc of the float, left after the moulding and joining of the separate parts of the float. Good idea NOT to play with the needle holder tounges/prongs.
Dags in actual fact are the bits of $h1t hanging around a sheep's rear end - we won't go into how I know this.
I apologise for using the vernacular.
