Hi Pete, remove the tappet giude blocks, stuff rags into the bores and mask up the top and bottom and the inside of where the guide blocks fit with gaffer (duct) tape. Then grit blast.
Once blasted clean, remove all masking and wash with a solvent, leave to dry and re-mask using paper masking tape. Then get them powder coated gloss black or if you have one near you even better is stove enammelling. Powder will do a good clean, durable job.
Important to remove the masking tape when the barrel is still warm from the oven, this makes it easier to remove.
Then when cold just wipe the faces with a solvent to remove any traces of residue.
