Well into stripping the engine down for a refurb. One exhaust valve guide flapping around, so head is in for a fix. Suspected this, with noisy top end and oil being burnt in RH cylinder.

When I pulled the barrels off, I noticed some leftover casting material (sand like substance) and rust deep in between the fins. I've scraped most of it out, but think it needs a decent clean and a repaint.

Can anyone please offer advice or recommendation on:

1) best way to get old paint and rust off the outside of barrels (finned area). eg sandblasting, glass bead blasting, paint stripper ,etc

2) best type of black gloss paint to repaint with, Considering VHT SP-905.

many thanks

Pete
