Do a search and you’ll find lots of other solutions and commentary on this issue.

Also, I’ve notice the following – when reinstalling my seat it helps me to lean down on the end of the seat somewhat. A little compression is necessary to get the holes in the steel tabs on the seat to align with the holes at the ends of the frame tubes. And I’ve noticed that since the frame tubes are not parallel (on my T-Bird), inserting the seat bolts is somewhat non-intuitive due to the funky angle.
