so last night i performed my first carb-rebuild on my '71 T120R and as i was following the clymer manual i found it odd that both of my carbs were completely lacking pilot jets. then i noticed that the intake hole for the pilot circuit was blocked by some sort of machined plug. here is a crappy cell-phone picture:

could you guys enlighten me or point me to some discussion of this type of carb modification? what do you gain and what do you lose with this mod?

also i'm assuming this was done by two owners ago b/c the last person to do a carb rebuild put both pilot air screws in the left carb and both idle screws in the right carb. :???: fixing that combined with a cleaning greatly improved my starting/idle.
