I have the same yr/model and have no chrome issues, although I spend very little time in the wet.
I'm not a chrome specialist, but I would not even expect pitting, if you have stored it out of the rain and polished it regularly.
Peeling of the chrome, to me, would seem a product defect. I would think that one of the layers was not done properly, and would certainly make a claim to T.
