I just did the "pushing in the caliper pistons" trick (suggested elsewhere on this forum) and I was shocked at the difference it made. Brake feels awesome now. They reckon this trick only lasts a few weeks though before the problem reappears.
Most people have deduced from this that the problem lies with the caliper seals and it seems as though some dealers are rebuilding calipers as a permanent fix.
It seems interesting to me then that some people are claiming a new master cylinder solves the problem. I seem to remember reading about someone a fair while back that tried a new m/c with only mixed results. Can anyone confirm the problem is still 100% fixed a month or more after having only replaced the m/c? Sparti, can you please report back after 3-4 weeks.
If this is really a m/c problem and not a caliper problem then all I can think of is that perhaps the action of forcing fluid back into the m/c by pushing back the caliper pistons somehow gets the m/c working properly again...temporarily at least.
It's definitely not the size of the m/c that's the problem here as I have just proved with my little piston pushing excercise. It must be an issue with the mechanicals of the particular m/c fitted to the S3.
