You would have alot more to change than just axles. Triumph went to disc brakes in 1973? I believe the same time they went to the oil-in-frame design. Brake drums, front and rear, changed quite often throughout the years too.

Like Moggy pointed out, there is a pre-Hinckley forum with a bunch of knowledgeable people.
