This is how I beleive it works, at least on cars. That is WHY i mention cars.

It connects to the intake O2 sensor. Some of these devices will totally replace the whole thing. The ECU monitors the current of the sensor and adjusts the fuel to air ratio accordingly to add more fuel when needed or less when not needed. That is why they are just a resistor or in this case a pot. It just changes the current the ECU monitors. So with this I can see problems because if someone who has no understanding of this, they can adjust that pot and make it too lean and kill your motor.
