Your right it has been done tahts how the guys that sell them did it in the first place.
It does seem like a piece of sheet metal with a few tabs and bends on it, because that's what it is. BUT it's where you put the bends and the tabs.
I have access to sheet metal cutting, folding and welding equipment but I chose to buy one. The 2 pods were going to cost me nearly $200 on their own.
If you do decide to make one try and obtain an airbox to use as a pattern that would enable you to still ride while making the tin bits.
