It could be too early to talk about it....... but I've put about 200 miles on one of those boxes via ebay. It arrived the evening of the 11th, and I put 50 miles on it that night with nary a glitch.
(REALLY nice not to have that 7400 rpm limiter kick in and get the way.)
I took it out for another 50 miles the following day, and got brave..... I stopped and ran a couple errands, coming back out to the bike with the hope that it'll fire up. It did, both times.
(There have been stories about the box not working on a cold start up, and not firing the bike up on a warm start.)
Then I took it out and put it through it's paces under a variety of conditions to include 'round town and high speed sprints. 90 miles and a gas stop later, it delivered 45 mpg where I normally get no better than 40 mpg.
The bike seems to run smoother, feels almost too mellow beneath me, but what a kick to spin her up beyond the customary 7400 rpm.
--- "...almost too mellow..." ---
I'm not complaining..... too early to come to any conclusions, but here's what I've observed so far:
*The exhaust has popped upon fire-up a couple times. I don't remember that happening often before the ignition install.
*The engine dieseled on me at the gas pump after my 90 mile ride, THAT has never happened before.
*I have gotten 45 mpg once before, but the bike normally delivers me 40 mpg. Surprisingly, the 45 mpg ride had some hard accelerations, 85+ mph runs, and some 60 to 70 mph behave'n up & down some local foothills.
*But there is something about the engine that seems to have been emasculated. Thus my statement about it being 'almost too mellow.....' I don't know what to make of it, the engine spins up nicely at high rpm, and runs smoothly around town, but it's like it's on Prozac or some'n.....
Make of all this what you may, it's still too early to say one way or the other. But of one thing I'm certain..... The new Bonnie's with the rev' limiter set at 8,000 rpm would be just about perfect. These engines aren't producing any more horsepower beyond the (my guestimated) 7600 rpm, and they sure as hell ain't creating any additional torque.....
But it's nice when you're passing a truck, when suddenly a car is coming from the opposite direction (seemingly from outa nowhere), and you DON'T stumble upon that damnedable rev' limiter.
