Get a dedicated GPS unit. Do you really want children to play with Palm/Pocket PC devices that will cost you about £200 and upwards. Keep them happy with a separate MP3 player.
A stand alone GPS can be used on the bike and in the car. Look at the Garmin range, Quest, 2610 both of which are waterproof. Or, there is the new Tom Tom Rider about which I know nothing.
I use a Navman iCN 520 on a RAM mount with a home 'reverse engineered' (i.e. butchered Navman cradle) to mount it on the Tiger. Waterproofing is achieved by use of a polythene bag and elastic band.
The bottom line is cost. How much do you want to pay? Whatever you get you must factor in a bike mounting/power supply system.
