i signed on this morning to tackle the same problem on my 03 st. i was planning on eating lunch with pack, went out and climbed on it (40 degrees out) and it would not start. i also smelt gas and also ran battery down. i was thinking the same as far as stopping the fuel pump so it would dry out. i hope you can get a response (for you and me). ride safe.
