How many miles have you got on it? They can be very clunky at first, they seem to loosen up after 10,000 miles or so. Shifting on my Thunderbird is amazingly slick and light.

Just to avoid any confusion, there is no separate gearbox oil on these bikes, the box shares the engine oil.

If the oil needs changing then you will notice a big difference with fresh, good quality engine oil.

Another possibility is that the oil is too heavy. The weight of oil that you run largely depends on the ambient temps in your part of the world.
