Don't stress about letting your bike idle for 5- 10 minutes. Read again and again and .... Its nothing to worry about.
As for what revs to ride around on if you stay within 3000 - 5000 when just tooling along that's fine. If you play racer a lot and regularly hit the redline/limiter that's fine but don't cruise at the redline in any gear. Just ride with what revs feel right. For me around town its in the 3000 - 4000 range and on the freeway 4000 - 5000.
