12 years old, in a mates paddoc bomb FE Holden.
Learnt how to get it into an drift, and out of a drift amongst other things.
Had great fun towing a bonnet (hood for you 'mericans) round on a rope and standing up and "surfing" on it round the paddocks.
Should be dead.
Can't say for sure how old I was when I actually learned to drive. I started out by sitting on Gramps' lap just steering, and learned to drive as soon as I could reach the pedals. But I know it was in a 1951 Chevy 5 window p/u exactly like this one...
Correct, it is a GM car, obviously with style queues taken from Chevrolet. It is about 3/4's of the size of a Chev, I have seen quite a few with 350 Chev motors transplanted into them, they do up a treat, although they are getting pretty scarce now.
Speaking of chick magnets, this was my first ride, an early 60's Vauxhall. A red one tho. Only lasted a few months as I wrecked it, hitting a stump while out squirrel hunting. No, I really did.
MAZ 503 dump truck - My dad took me to construction sites when he had to work on saturdays. He operated throttle and brake and I, while sitting on his knees, turned the huge steering wheel (i was about 7 or 8)
First 'real' car i drove was my dads Audi 80 B2 (similar to the car pictured). Was his first ever car at age 37 (in 1990), after Die Wende.
I was behind one of those quite a while back and I was at first surprized to see one still on the road, then I noticed the vanity plate it read: "Vette"
Then I thought about all the poor Corvette owners in the state going to the DMV and asking for that plate only to be told. "Sorry Sir, that's not available." Meanwhile this guy in the Chevette is laughing his arse off.
Then I used to drive around in the Ford P100 pick up..
