A tip that was passed on to me at the store where I bought my 18mm deep well socket is to glue a short piece of rubber fuel hose in the far end of the socket to support the plugs insulator.

This helps to protect the insulator and also provides a grip on it to make extracting it from the engine a bit easier.
I glued it in with silicon sealant, worked a treat.

I also found that the socket that I bought was just a little too fat to go over the spark plug, but a bit of treatment in my lathe to slim it down by 1/2 mm or so soon put paid to that nonsense.
