The fuel pressure bleeds off overnite while the engine cools. The first start on a cold engine the fuel pump cuts out too soon to gain maximum fuel pressure. If you had a fuel pressure gauge it it very easy to see what's going on.
My turbo Hayabusa does the same thing. However, my 05 S3 starts easilly when cold.
