just me but i would keep the rocket and pick up a 10-15 yr. old v-max for maybe 3-4 grand as a second bike. even the newer ones are still a little quicker than the rocket or the v-rod in terms of cruiser exelleration but i'll have to agree about the 'handling' issues.
although not in the cruiser class, the zrx 1200 is also a nice alternative and it handles better. you can pick up a 2000 in good condition for about 4k.
the v-rod line is about the only hd line that's not marked up from what i've seen at the shops due to low demands. i still remember back in 2001, the 02' were selling for 25-30k range.
