How many miles on the bike? Not that it really matters if it was mistreated. The first thing I would do is add some fuel injector cleaner to the tank. If that doesn't clear it up check the throttle bodies to see if they rise and fall together. Check the air cleaner, if it has a 19 tooth front sprocket change it to an 18 tooth. That makes starts much smoother. It probably would be a good idea to have your local shop hook it up to the diagnostic tool and load the latest tune and reset any faults anyway.
There are some members here that have over 100k miles on their bikes but, I bet they have been taken care of. Good luck.
