Well I finally got the bike back in the shop again, third straight summer, fourth time in for the same thing.
For those of you who do not know or remember I bought my 2001 Trophy 1200 back in 2003 (June) and it has never run right; erratic RPM, stalling and bucking issues. Problems became prominent when the bike got hot and the battery failed when undergoing an advance rider's course in July '03.
It has been in the shop 3 times (Nault's Triumph 2X, Great Bay 1X) and it has re-developed the problem afterward all 3 times, particularly after any long ride in which the weather is warm to hot. It is back at Great Bay right now with less than 3K on it and I have my fingers crossed.
I have made what I believe to be a very sincere plea to have the bike repaired as I do love the bike/style but at the same time I emphasized that this will be the last time that I will deal with this problem. The senior mechanic was surprised that I have been dealing
with it this long, he would have traded it off as a lemon after the second time for which by then it hade spent almost 60 combined days in the shop.
What can I say, I told him, it was a dream bike that I had wanted for a very long time and they don't make them anymore so I am just trying to deal with what I got.
That's loyalty he said.
Anyways, at a lot of people's suggestion in another forum, the battery was replaced since my last post which obviously did nothing. To recap what has been done to it I think it would be easier to list what has not been done to it in regards to repair attempts; the coils have not
been changed.
I dropped buy the dealership (Great Bay) on Wednesday and showed them the repair history from Nault's and the mechanic shook his head at everything that has been done in chasing the issue.
While I was there I did demo the new Sprint ST, nice. I like the blue one and of course I have to have the bags. Who knows, Trophy burps again or they can't fix it I'm moving on, Sprint ST,
Motto Guzzi Breva,
BMW K1200R who knows.
I will follow up when new info is available.
