My 99 Legend started missing on #1 cylinder while riding during quite a downpour. After she dried out and still wouldn't run right, I pulled the plug and observed no spark. The plug was burned around the base of the insulator and the clip inside the ignition wire boot no longer made a secure connection. After swapping around wires and coils I still have a "double trouble" (atleast) situation. #1 Gill coil would not fire when put in either #2 or 3 position nor would any of the good coils fire when placed in #1 position. My tach also went dead.
After quite a bit of research on this fine website, I replaced all my Gills with the new Nology coils. She now runs better than she ever has on only two cylinders. #1 still does not fire. I'm hoping their is a short or something that I have not yet located, but it seems to me that it is likely that the ignitor is not working properly. However, several very fine non-Triumph mechanics do not believe that the ignitor could be bad if she continues to fire on 2 of 3. So, finally, my ignitor question.
Is it likely (or possible) that the Gill ignitor would fail on only one leg of the stool? I'd sure like to know before laying out the bargain price of $650. Please do not interpret my use of the word stool to indicate any disatisfaction with the fine products from Gill. Was Lucas truly only the Prince? Yoour comments and help are greatly appreciated.
