Mine has never popped (well, it did once when I lost a vacuum cap from the manifold), and I have been through 2 exhaust systems, removal of the airbox, and of course the removal of the air Injection system. Mine is one of the few (I guess) that doesn't idle as good as I would like--been that way from zero miles to 7700 miles now. Of course, I try my best to not allow it much chance to idle anyway. :-D
