Looch,
It sounds to me like your pipe could have come off altogether. The fuel pressure regulator as you have probably seen sits just below the fuel pump. It should definately have a hose connected to it. This hose is small diameter but is normally cable tied on the the exit pipe of the regulator.

With no pipe fitted, if the pressure builds within the tank and the valve opens it could let petrol out onto a hot engine or a spark........not nice :cry:

Hard not to sound like sucking eggs, but have you checked amongst the breather hoses or along side the battery box to see if it is there just lying loose?

I'll go have a look at mine with my camera....get back to you..
