The 96 fairing is straight and without the upward lip, looks shorter. The 96 fairing dumped the wind right at my eyelevel -- putting all of florida's bugs on the visor. I've just replaced mine with a gustafson with an extra 2 inches and it has the upward lip. It is definitely a better cold weather fairing and moves the turbalance above my head.
