Guys & Ladies,
Today, I purchased a brand new black '04 Triumph Thruxton. My dealer is Capitol Sports Center in Jackson, MS. It is a family owned long term Triumph dealer (since the '60s). The current owner Wayne Farris is a good guy, and also did the service on my new bike to get it ready to roll. I am completely new to Triumphs (most of my recent past has been Harley & Aprilia which I also own and love).
Needless to say, I'm stoked about my new ride!
I had the following mods done at the time of purchase with zero miles:
1. Triumph "off road" slip on pipes (I'm guessing that is what TORs mean here).
2. Air Injection stuff removed and blocked off.
3. Carbs modified slightly to compensate for the pipes since the service chief/owner of dealership recommended.
4. I removed all the reflectors, a free mod :-)
I'll grit my teeth and toss out these "newbie questions" as I failed to find FAQs and good answers through search:
1. The owners manual recommends synthetic in 10w/40 or 15w/50 weight. Should I go with 15w/50 synthetic (Mobil 1, Silkolene, etc) in this warm climate? Triumph oil filters are available, but are any of you using something different that is OEM matched?
2. I want to pitch the stock mirrors, but am wondering about the best choices in bar end mirrors. Is it a simple bolt on, or more complicated (drilling out the clip ons?).
3. Are there other mods that are good to make?
4. What sort of bike lift do you guys recommend? I come from the world of Pitbull swing arm stands, and am guessing that I should pony up for a bike lift at some point (to lube the chain, lift the bike, etc).
Thanks in advance for any answers to these questions, and I look forward to learning about this great bike--and hopefully to contribute as I get some time under my belt.
Regards,
Karl :-D
