Just noticed BigStripeys list, yes I agree duct tape
Ipg,

I forgot my trusty roll of duck tape from the list!, brilliant for putting mangled Aprilia's back together (another long story....)

But i meant the self amalgamating tape. Looks like electrical tape except that it has a backing that you peel off, then stretch the tape to half it's width. This releases a catalyst in the tape which makes it adhere to just about anything, and to itself.

I have fixed intercooler hoses under pressure on 12 litre Volvo diesel engines before and it sealed them completely Brilliant for insulating and waterproofing electrical joints as well.

If you have not used some before, it is a must for any travel kit and definatley your toolbox.
