In the US the Octane number on the pump is generally 87, 89, and 91-93 depending on the company. The number is arrived at by adding the "research" and "method" octane numbers and dividing by two. Triumph recommends 89 and my bike runs best on this fuel. Octane is not a meeasure of fuel quality, so unless you have modified your bike by raising compression or advancing the timing it will probably run best on the recommended fuel and save you some money too.
