Thumbs up Hooray for Local Mechs!

After going to the Triumph dealership near where I work and being quoted a $450 ballpark for JUST THE VALVE check...more if actual adjustments needed to be made. I was planing on hauling the bike 200mi up to my brother (a trained motorcycle mech) and buying him dinner to do it. I fiugred with gas for a truck, dinner, etc it would run me a couple hundred.

On the sugestion of a friend (whose opinon I highly respect) I took it to a local mech that he uses. The gent did the check and found 2 that were a couple thouhsandths out and one that was three. He said while they were still basically ok, that since he was in there he went ahead and shimmed them dialing everything in just right. The whole thign took hime about 4 hours. I showed up as he was wrestling the tank back into place (me being a dunce...filled the tank a day or so ago and the poor guy had to deal with that full tank)

When he gave it a test start the 10 year old o-ring on the gas connection wouldn't reseal and he had to disconnect the tank again, find the right o-ring replace it and reconnect everything. Now. Since the o-ring blew when the bike was running, the engine light came on (it didnt' when he started the bike...only after the o-ring and restart) my quick search here reveled that the ECU should reset in three running temp and cooldown cycles.

But the mech said if it dosn't reset just bring it back and he will get it figured out...no charge

....his charge...for the whole process...with the parts needed?

$200

A BIG thumbs up for the local guys.
