I'd have to say that wouldn't be all that unusual. However, I'd caution you against prolonged idling due to heat. An air cooled engine requires airflow for cooling.
Have you removed the Air Injection ? (I'm guessin with the NARK & TORS's you have) If not rip it off and the exhaust will be cooler.
Triumph use single wall headers so they're gonna glow when really hot!
