I'm not a wiz about fixing these things but I know what looks cool and that is a great start! Can't make a bad looking bike with that bitchin license plate! The last thing you want to do is make it all cute, just get the right bars and fork spring covers. The whole point of this stuff is you will keep monkeying around with it so don't get caught up in building the perfect bike. There's a really important ratio of afternoons spent showing off, to afternoons spent broke and frustrated. 4-year plans are for college haha...

The stuff I'd change is mostly style, cooler front tire, cooler sticker on the oil tank, maybe shorten the fork springs and put a 21" rim up there with a 16" in the back, all stuff you can mess around with once it's running. I'd put an Amal carb back on it but again that's just for vanity's sake.

If there's one thing that seems a little funky about the bike it's how you kind of have the bottom section of the bolt-on rigid going down at an angle, just a little bit. It might just be the photo.

Are you going with mid-controls hopefully? I agree that whitewalls are kinda played out.
