There isn't any proof loud pipes make a bike more noticeable but there is plenty of ancillary proof... it is obnoxious enough to hack people off so they are obviously noticeable. I consider loud pipes one more round in my weapon. I wear a yellow jacket and helmet with reflective stickers on front and back, an auxiliary brake light on the back of my helmet (only works with the Thrux though). I left the reflectors on my bike, I have a loud horn and loud pipes and at night i use tire-flys. I'd never go to war with a 1/2 loaded weapon.

EDIT:

TT pipes have a wonderfully wicked howl during straight and level flight at 3500 - 4000 RPM
