Hi 1973Tiger, petcocks have been a problem since unleaded fuel was introduced. It seems to attack the seals where the old 4 star never did, it also attacks fuel pipe too. The only petcocks I know to work have seals made from the same material as plastic fuel tanks. There was a company making these about 4 years ago when I bought a pair (£50) in chrome and they were great.............. unfortunately they no longer make them so you will have to see what you can find.
Just a tip, after 500 miles, remove the fuel pipe and turn on the tap to check you are getting FULL FLOW of gas. Don't forget to catch the gas and pour it back in the tank!!!!!
Roy.
