Not sure 'bout that. Just a habbit of mine now. I only use the battery tender for extended un-use. I just disconnect the battery when I know I'm not going to ride for a week or two. My original battery was a regular wet type. I kept the battery connected all the time and hooked up to the tender whenever I wasn't riding and it only lasted a couple of years. I think the design of the AGM plus only using the tender for extended periods of un-use is helping get longer life out of it.
