Removing tank pad help

I'm wanting to change out my tank pad. I have one of those Pro-Grip ones which I'd like to replace. Anyone ever remove one of these? I'm thinking of liftiing a corner and going at it with a hair dryer to soften it and pull it back. Not sure what kind of residue will be left and if taking it off will ruin the clear coat/paint underneath. I won't do it if that's the case. Will just have to live with what I originally put on. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks ahead.
