You're in England, it's an English motorbike, and it's an electrical problem. Go to the pub and raise a pint to Lucas, Prince of Darkness!
And somewhat seriously.....It may be wired into the switched circuit behind the panel. Check it with the ignition on and off. It sucks to plug something in to an unswitched circuit and kill the battery! Best guess it's wired into the heated grips circuit....but then again, it's English!
