Daytona 650 Dies At Idle
Hey Guys, I'm new to the forum, thanks in advance for all the help!
Okay, heres a doozy:
I have an 05 daytona 650, 12k miles on it, I also have a radar detector hard wired in(fused of course) which I UNPLUG after I turn the bike off, not just turn the off switch. It has ran perfectly fine up until about two months ago, here is the rundown:
The battery was due for a service, so I bought a new one from the local dealer and installed it. No problems whatsoever. I then changed my oil with full synthetic. No problems again.
About two months ago, The bike began dying at stoplights intermittently, whenever I let the throttle off to idle. I can keep the throttle back and the bike stays alive, but as soon as I let off, it dies. It starts up fine and idles excellent cold and idles at lights fine sometimes. It is not a consistent problem. I figured it may be an air filter or spark problem, so I replaced both. I put iridium plugs in and the problem went away for about a day. I pulled the plugs and none were fouled, and all were properly gapped. I put them back in and made sure that the coils were pushed down and the plugs torqued. Still, it dies at stoplights. I pulled the plugs and put stock plugs in (new ones, not iridium) and exchanged the battery for a new one. Still dies at idle.
Note: The check engine light is on, so I took it to my dealer and the only code it was throwing was for 'secondary air injection'.
Here is the weird part: It will always have problems starting after I fill it up with gas, no matter how much or how little I put in. It will BARELY crank over, and then it will not idle, only die immediately. I have to hold the throttle back to keep it alive after gassing up. Also, if I pull the throttle to give it gas to start my speedo will always read '0' when I start riding.
Another curious question: When I turn on the ignition the tach needle jumps VERY quickly all the way up, then all the way back. It does not go up and back smoothly. Only a quick jump. Is this normal?
Thanks!
