Fuel Petcock leak question

Today I removed the fuel tank, preparing for a valve clearance inspection. I set it up off the floor and noticed it was leaking through the petcock at the point it would normally connect to the fuel line - although set to the off position. I moved the lever around a bit to see if it would seat better, but a steady slow drip continued. I drained the remaining three gallons to empty the tank, and set out to see if anyone else has dealt with this on the site. I could not find any definitive information about sources to rebuild, although the Triumph manual states this is not an option. Bike Bandit will sell me a new one for $100 plus shipping. Just hoping there is a less painful solution.
