I used the official K&N kit, followed their procedure, the side of the pods which are exposed to the outside world remained black, the inside had white patches here and there but still looked gross.

Fact is has been terrible on fuel, and feels more gutless at top end over 5000, is a biatch to start when warm, great to start when cold, air filters dirty as hell, and still dirty as hell!

Its done 1000's of miles on dirty back roads, when it was dyno'ed & re-jetted it the K&ns were out of the box brand new.

Maybe they were oiled too much when I first cleaned them, I sprayed each fold once, about 10 inches away, but I cant tell because it is so black I cant tell where the red oil was/wasnt!

I think I may need to just start again and clean/oil them more often.
