I always put in 3 quarts, start the engine for a few seconds, let it sit for awhile, then get my Significant Other to sit on the bike and raise it to upright slowly. It takes slightly less than .75 quarts to fill it to the middle of the sight glass. If I make a mistake and overfill it, even just a little, it will blow that oil out through the breather into the air-box, where it collects and then runs out onto the front sprocket cover. I think each bike will be a little different because suspension settings, weight of the rider, etc. can make a difference in how the oil contacts the sight glass.
