Well, I guess this where I shake hands...
Howdy all. I guess a first post here is probably a decent idea. I'm a Triumph FNG to say the least. Zero experience with the Brand. I inherited a '78 Bonneville Special T140D a few weeks ago, and made a commitment to restore it.

It seems to be in very good condition. It's been under a cover and in a garage these last ten years. Almost zero surface rust and external corrosion. The tires are dry-rotted, but they were holding air! Clutch seems to work, brakes work. Wheel bearings seem sluggish. Controls all seem to work, save the throttle. The cabling is fine, but there seems to be a seizure in the carbs (I'm betting gummed). There's oil in the crankcase, and no puddle underneath. I stroked the kick-starter a couple of gentle turns, and the engine rolls over smoothly. I did some continuity tests on some of the wiring, and all seems well there. Of course the battery is long dead...

I've been riding for thirty years. Mostly Japanese brands. I've never owned a Triumph or a Harley. Currently, my daily ride is a Yamaha FJR 1300. I do some "bike camping" and I commute pretty regularly on my bike.

I've been doing a lot of online research and reading, and am starting to slowly get a grip on what the T140D is like. I'm a decent shade-tree wrench, and do pretty much all my own service on the bikes, to include changing out tires and such. I've rebuilt a couple of carbs is my time.

Alright, that's more than enough - sorry if I was long-winded.
