It looks like you and I both got 06’s at the same time. I’ve had mine for a few weeks. I paid $6,500 for it and feel like I got an awesome deal. However, it sounds like you might have gotten an abused bike or something. Mine has a little over 5,000 miles on it but looks brand new. It rides fantastic. I don’t have any panel gaps or dry rot. As far as quality goes it just had its 6,000 mile check (early) and is good to go. Everyone thinks it’s a brand new bike. I’ve never had it stall out on braking, or any other time for that matter. The brakes aren’t harsh but I can stop as fast as my skill level will allow. I also don’t have any complaints about the headlights. Normally I don’t “hard” ride after dark so overrunning the headlights isn’t an issue for me. I’ve read where others have different opinions and I guess it all depends on when and how you ride.
If you’re bike was a “new” 06, it sounds like you might have gotten a bad copy or something. What’s the history of your bike?
