Fork Leaking Oil

I left my bike for a week, I've been working on restoring a 79 Bonneville since Christmas or so. And I got to the garage and I noticed a pool of oil by the left fork. I checked it out to make sure it didnt come out of the screw at the bottom and Im pretty sure I think it came out of the seal possibly? It had been a week and there was some traces of oil. I pulled the black rubber piece that seperates the upper piece of the fork the lower and it didnt look oil filled. Im kinda at a loss. I guess Im going to have to put more oil in and see if it holds? That brings me to another question what type of oil do I use? And has anyone run into this problem I dont want to buy new forks right now.

Mr. Sinister.
