You only tend to use the leg thing in the UK, where you can't wave to one another without letting go of the throttle - therefore, leg or nod - usually nod. That said, over here in mainland Europe, it does feel a sight more friendly with everyone waving. They were some right miserable buggers in London, never nodding or acknowledging other riders.
