It is possible to clean it up a whole lot for not a lot of money. The main issue is tidying up the wiring. I used an RD Yamaha headlight with a couple of universal clamps. I managed to bundle up the wiring and tuck it away fairly neatly. Headlight relays fit inside the shell.
The original instruments are housed in a pod from a T509/595. They fit perfectly. I used the original idiot lights and just fabricated a mounting plate for them to fit the new pod. Alternatively, you might find an instrument housing, headlight and mounts from a Trident which will fit straight up, I just didn't have those parts available to me.
Original bars got the flick in favour of Tommaselli clip-ons which are fully adjustable. This got me forward over the tank and much more aerodynamic. Cruising at 140 (km/hr) is not a problem, very comfortable.
The horns are mounted to the top radiator mount by bending the original bracket to fit. It took me ages to work that one out! Looks quite neat.
I'm not 100% happy with the headlight set-up, I think I'll look for a pair of bug eyes, just for something different. At the same time, I'll tidy up the wiring a bit better. All of that took me a couple of weekends to sort over quite a few ales.
Good fun.
Cheers,
Roden
