My dad's been an ASE certified master mechanic for over 40 years and can fix pretty much anything with a Clymer or Haynes. I just ordered the Haynes for the Bonnie/Thuxton/Scrambler pretty cheap at
www.themotorbookstore.com so I can finally start to learn more about my baby and start handling the basics. I just clocked 15,000 miles since Feb '07 and look forward to my commute every single day.
I also have an '88 Suzuki Savage as a backup bike and the motor is on it's last legs so I picked up a '95 with low miles that had been crashed for only $300 and will be swapping out the engine and transmission into the '88. I am looking forward to getting grease under my fingernails and bonding with pops as he guides me through it and I'll have a whole parts bike to spare. Just about the only thing I can do mechanically right now is change the oil on the Savage but it gives me such a sense of satisfaction that I cannot wait to tackle the engine swap on the Savage. I'm a New Englander living in Florida so I don't have or want a car cuz it's never too cold to ride but I want to get the swap done before the rainy season hits cuz I'd much rather ride a backup bike in the rain and not risk dumping my baby.
