Battery / Electrical problem

12 months ago I had to replace my battery after it had apparently died in the bum. A couple of weeks back the same symptoms started appearing ie dead flat the morning after after having been ridden for 50km to work. I jump started the bike and took it to the place I got the battery from for testing (battery tested ok, charging max 14.3 v at 5500 rpm). No problem with the battery so next stop was to the dealer to have it repaired under warranty. Thankfully this time they listened to me and tested the charging system and found the normal output was 12.3 v at idle going to a max of 14.3v at 5500 rpm and then dropping off again after that to 13. something. Long story short the guy found a bad earth at the regulator and modified the wiring to improve the earthing capability. Now I'm wondering if my original battery was really stuffed or just drained over time like this current one. Anyone had similar happenings?
